Christopher Tool has been a part of the jet age since the late 1950s. You might say that our growth has piggybacked that of the aircraft/aerospace industries over the past half century.
We have organized our workforce over the years to assume full responsibility for the quality, integrity and flawless workmanship of the complex parts that we manufacture. Aerospace demands repeatability, traceability and frozen processes. We have adopted those requirements as our sole method of operation.

DEFENSE
We understand the unique requirements associated with manufacturing
hardware that is used by our military.
First and foremost, we always follow the ITAR protocol in transferring information back and forth between our employees, customers and vendors.
We accept the fact that military orders have very limited MRB authority.
Simply put, make the parts to print and on time.

DIESEL ENGINE COMPONENTS
Our diesel engine components help fuel light weight through heavy duty trucks, as well as earth moving equipment used in the construction industry.
Our involvement, in this arena, is limited to new product development. We are not a high volume producer. Our experience in manufacturing fuel injectors for diesel engines flowed naturally from our commercial and military engine business. Both applications require stringent straightness and roundness geometries. Diesel engines operate at higher injection pressures than jet engines, thus requiring tighter diametrical clearances.

FLUID POWER
Approximately forty percent of the parts sold by Christopher Tool go into units that either create motion or supply fuel to systems that cause motion. These components all have similar requirements that must be met in order to function properly.
The parts must be straight and round to within twenty to forty millionths. They must be burr free. Metering edges must be sharp. Sealing surfaces must be free of scratches, nicks and dings. Fluid power applications require tightly controlled leakage along the flow curve.

MEDICAL
To date, our work in the medical field has been peripheral. We have limited our area of expertise to instrumentation and support hardware.
Over time, we intend to make our way into implantable body parts. Titanium, a material often used for implants, is frequently used in aerospace because of its light weight and excellent durability, characteristics also needed for implants. We are very familiar with the machining of titanium.

OIL & GAS
Christopher Tool has serviced the very cyclical oil and gas industry for several decades. The many parts designed for this industry are designed for durability and wear.
Machined parts, often used in this industry, require soft cores and high surface hardness. Nitriding steels and low carbon steels requiring carburizing are metals of choice for these applications. Oil rig parts are often designed with ground gears and splines that produce little or no backlash.

ROBOTICS
Christopher Tool has manufactured parts for the robotic industry for well over a decade. Most of our parts have found their application in the creation of a humanoid that replicates the movement of a living human being.
We have made parts out of aluminum that articulate with the same degrees of motion as the human counterpart. We have also made both hydraulic and pneumatic valve parts used in the actuation systems that orchestrate the robotic movement.
Christopher Tool continues to utilize its multi-axis capability to manufacture complex hardware of various shapes and sizes.

SPACE
Christopher Tool has made contributions to all of the space programs dating back to the early 1960’s. Following the Space Shuttle Challenger’s horrific accident in 1986, space exploration was suspended for nearly three years.
Christopher Tool was among a handful of companies chosen to participate in the “return to flight” program that was tasked with preventing a similar accident from ever happening in the future. Christopher Tool’s role was to manufacture newly designed hardware to correct the various problems.
Christopher Tool has parts on the Land Rover and, more recently, on the Space X and Blue Origin programs.
